A performance artist at the Edinburgh fringe as expressed disappointment at a series of shows which sold to capacity. The artist, who wishes to remain anonymous, took to Instagram to express their deep sadness at a sudden surge of popularity.
“I don’t understand it at all. I expected to be performing to 1 or two people at most and be able to create a sequel based on how nobody understood me. I even hoped that there might be protests about the nature of my aesthetics, but the crowd seems to love my work. I have had three standing ovations.”
The artist went on to say that their work did contain nudity and knife play which they believe you would keep away tourists, at the very least. Following the Internet sensation of that weeping performer who suddenly got loads of full houses, this incident is the latest of a series of success stories.
“This really goes against the spirit of the fringe,” said critic Gareth K Vile. “People are supposed to lose their shirt, or their dreams of success should be crushed mercilessly by the apparent lack of interest from passers-by who just don’t want any more flyers. If this goes on, the entire star system is going to collapse. These characters are being popular without getting permission.”
Last night, the performance artist was in hiding. Having been accused of selling out, they have changed their name and are working on a new show with the working title I’m sorry.
